My Astrology Journey

Hello! My name is Joy Sinclair and I’m a Dutch astrologer and counselor from Amsterdam, currently living on my Moon IC line in Porto, Portugal. I was born and raised in the Netherlands, surrounded by the Dutch, Indonesian and French culture. When I wasn't dancing or creating art, I was listening to my grandmother's astrological wisdom. Thanks to her, I grew up with astrology and spirituality. My family really exposed me to open-mindedness at a young age and I’m eternally grateful for that!

As a troubled teenager, I became more interested in unraveling the mysteries of life, and started using astrology as a tool to understand myself, the world and the people around me on a deeper level. You can read more about that here. Later, during my student days, I met like-minded astrology enthusiasts. Back then a rare species! Thanks to these connections, my interest in astrology was sparked even more and I started studying western astrology more thoroughly. I took classes at various astrology schools and did a lot of self study. In fact, I still do! Learning astrology is an ongoing, never ending process.

After studying Art History at the University of Amsterdam and Paris Université VIII, I have worked as a fashion historian, photographer, content creator, burlesque teacher and performer. However, the idea of becoming a professional astrologer, instead of the go-to-astrologer for all of my friends, was always in the back of my mind. I never dared to take the plunge, and most importantly, the timing was never right, until the planets offered me opportunities for change during the pandemic. I decided to go for it and opened my doors for consultations in 2020. In 2023, I have completed my higher professional education degree in Counseling, also known as talk therapy, to better meet the needs of my clients and ensure a higher standard of service.

My Astrology Practice

I practice western, tropical astrology with an eclectic mix of modern and traditional astrology techniques. Over the years I have mastered many branches of astrology: psychological astrology, relationship astrology (synastry and composite charts), mundane astrology, locational astrology (astrocartography), black luminaries astrology and predictive astrology (solar returns, transits, secondary progressions, annual profections and zodiacal releasing). I’d like to draw from different schools of astrological thought, and combine them with my own intuition and observations. I have always gone my own way and encourage others to find their unique ways too.

An astrology consultation with me is always a conversation where you share what you're moving through. I will try to hold a closed container for you so that you feel seen, heard and accepted. I will draw on my background as a counselor and ask the questions that spark a transformation in yourself. It's my mission to make you feel empowered and give you clarity and affirmation about various aspects of your life. Critical thinking, quality and depth are values I hold dear.

Finally, I practice astrology through an intersectional lens, which means that I value individual experiences and read charts in the context of societal systems and frameworks, in order to have a deeper understanding of where you fit into the bigger picture of the world.
